European Parliament calls for EU sanctions on Cuba and support for transition
The European Parliament adopted a resolution on 18 June 2026 condemning systematic repression in Cuba and calling for EU targeted sanctions against Cuban officials, including President Miguel Díaz-Canel, and the suspension of the EU-Cuba cooperation agreement if democratic transition is not initiated. The resolution also demands the immediate release of all political prisoners and increased humanitarian aid.

Euro Area Inflation Rises to 2.9% in July 2026 Flash Estimate

Euro Area GDP Grows 0.4% in Q2 2026, EU 0.5% – Eurostat Flash Estimate
Eurostat's preliminary flash estimate shows euro area GDP grew by 0.4% in Q2 2026 and EU GDP by 0.5% quarter-on-quarter, following stagnation in Q1. Year-on-year growth accelerated to 1.0% in the euro area and 1.2% in the EU. The release provides an early signal of economic momentum for compliance-relevant macroprudential risk assessments.
