The ECB has released its consolidated banking data for end-December 2025, showing a 1.6% increase in total assets of EU credit institutions to €33.50 trillion. The non-performing loans ratio remained stable at 1.97%, while return on equity stood at 9.3% and the Common Equity Tier 1 ratio at 16.42%.

ECB Survey: Cash Remains Most Accepted Payment Method in Euro Area

The ECB has published consolidated banking data for end-March 2026, showing that total assets of EU credit institutions increased by 3.63% year on year to €34.33 trillion. The aggregate non-performing loans ratio edged up to 1.98%, while return on equity stood at 2.44% and the Common Equity Tier 1 ratio at 16.27%. The dataset covers nearly 100% of the EU banking sector's balance sheet and includes methodological proxies for Denmark due to data unavailability.
