AMLA Chair highlights supervisory convergence and preparations for direct supervision

AMLA Chair Bruna Szego highlighted the need for greater convergence in AML/CFT supervision across EU Member States. Key priorities include the Single AML Rulebook, common supervisory methodologies, harmonised intelligence-sharing formats, crypto-asset risks and preparations for AMLA’s direct supervision from 2028. No new binding obligations are introduced, but the interview provides an important indication of AMLA’s supervisory direction.

AMLA consults on draft standards for EU-wide AML/CFT database

AMLA has launched a public consultation via a public hearing on draft regulatory technical standards that will establish a central AML/CFT database. The database will serve as a single point for supervisory authorities to report and retrieve information, drawing on data supervisors already hold to avoid new reporting costs for obliged entities. The public hearing is scheduled for 3 November 2026, 14:00-16:00 CET.

AMLA identifies AML/CFT priorities for the MiCA review

AMLA has published its response to the European Commission's targeted consultation on the review of MiCA, setting out five AML/CFT priority areas: staking, lending and borrowing; DeFi arrangements; unauthorised stablecoins; certain asset-referenced token issuers outside the obliged-entity framework; and cross-border supervision of service providers. The response proposes targeted amendments or clarifications to address ML/TF risks more effectively and support consistent EU supervision.

AMLA finalises three AML/CFT regulatory technical standards for the private sector

On 1 October 2026, AMLA published three final draft Regulatory Technical Standards under the Anti-Money Laundering Regulation, covering business relationships and occasional transactions (Art. 19(9)), customer due diligence (Art. 28(1)) and group-wide arrangements (Arts. 16(4) and 17(3)). The drafts have been submitted to the European Commission and are proposed to apply six months after entry into force, with a deferred date of 10 July 2029 for football agents and professional football clubs.
